2012…the Year of No Fear!!!

February 16th, 2012

What could you accomplish in 2012 if you had “No Fear!!!” Fear holds us back from living life as it should be lived. Our imagination is powerful and most of the time what we fear only exists in our mind. Many times, our fears hold back those we love as well.

Fear is real so this approach will not work for everyone. Those with deep seeded fears should work with a trained counselor who they can trust to help them overcome their problems. Many basic fears can be eliminated by addressing them head on.

As stated in an earlier post. Professor David J. Swartz once said, “Do what you fear and fear disappears.” He also said, “Believe it can be done. When you believe something can be done, really believe, your mind will find the ways to do it. Believing a solution paves the way to solution.”

Who or What is more important than your fears? Your Family? Your Faith? Your Friends? Your Job? Your Freedom? Do you have the courage to face your fears?

How do you deal with fear? … by confronting your fears head on. Make a habit of dealing with fear right here, right now. Take out a sheet of paper and answer the following questions:

  • What do I fear most in my life?
  • What other fears hold me back from being all that I can be?
  • What unresolved issues do I have that would help me eliminate my fears?
  • Who will benefit most from my decision to master my fears?

Now look for ways to help you overcome your fears. Pray about it and talk to your family and friends and perhaps a counselor regarding the changes you would like to make. There is not a magic answer but the best solution is to learn more about the areas of your life that you wish to change. With a deeper understanding, your fears can be harnessed into self-esteem and confidence.

It is very important to keep a journal to measure your progress. Almost always, the simple act of writing down a problem gets your mind thinking in a positive direction. A better life awaits those who prepare and plan for success.

Freedom is man’s capacity to take a hand in his own development. It is our capacity to mold ourselves.
Rollo May

Remember this will be hard and challenging work to overcome your fears but you are worth every minute of it!

Let’s make 2012, The Year of “NO FEAR!!!”

WIN! Want It Now!

February 14th, 2012

When we hear the word WIN, we think of success. Earl Nightingale once said “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal.” How do you win in your career/life? Start by identifying your personal definitions of success. It could be as simple as working one extra hour per day or as challenging as starting a new business. Do you want to WIN… do you WANT IT NOW? WIN used as an acronym with strong goals behind it, can be a very powerful motivator in your life. Wanting to win is not a selfish act… it is simply your desire to work or play at a very high level. No one likes to lose so our desire to win is deeply rooted in our personal goals and dreams.

In 2008, I attended a pro basketball game at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. Tim Duncan of the World Champion San Antonio Spurs, one of the greatest power forwards to ever play the game, was having his usual stellar night in points and rebounds. This night though, the battle was between the point guards, as they led each of their teams in points and assists. They went back and forth scoring at will on each other until two minutes were left in the fourth quarter. Then it became apparent who really wanted to WIN! Tony Parker, point guard of the San Antonio Spurs wanted the ball. His court presence changed from great to unstoppable as he lead his team to victory. He gave 110% of himself and left nothing on the floor. His team needed a leader and he stepped up to the challenge.

Do you rise to the challenge when the game is on the line? Do you Want It Now? Are you the person that wants to score the game winning shot to win?

Wanting to win in any endeavor is a worthy challenge. Reaching for SUCCESS gives each of us the energy and motivation to begin again tomorrow.

In your career, are you the go-to person?…. if not, you can be!

Make 2012 the year you invest in your future and prepare to WIN, Want It Now! By wanting to be successful you will give action to all of your hopes and dreams. This action will serve as your motivation to keep going and building an outstanding career. Always look for educational opportunites to become an EXPERT in your field.

BE YOUR OWN COLUMBUS!

June 24th, 2011

Where do you fit in today’s global economy? Are you an analog person trying to fit into a digital world? Have your hopes and dreams been watered down by the economic tsunami? Are you sitting on the sidelines hoping for better times? Professor David J. Swartz once said, “Do what you fear and fear disappears.”  He also said, “Believe it can be done. When you believe something can be done, really believe, your mind will find the ways to do it. Believing a solution paves the way to solution.”

How do you start? Start by identifying your passions in life. Your skills and talents are your true calling and they must be fully developed to realize your greatest potential. Talk to people who are doing an excellent job in their chosen field. In most cases, you will find they truly love their work. Sure they get frustrated at times like everyone else, but they feel a burning desire for their work and it shows. Take good notes from each person and form your own action plan.

Will you be your own Columbus and discover ways to improve your present career or find a new one? Will you search tirelessly for resources to learn more about your profession? Will you set goals and achieve them? Will you do everything in your power to find a job you love because if you do, you will never work another day in your life.

I will leave you with this quote that hangs above my desk by Gerhard Gschwandtner, Publisher of Selling Power Magazine ,” Problems are nothing but wake-up calls for creativity.”

WE BECOME WHAT WE THINK ABOUT!

June 24th, 2011

EARL NIGHTINGALE , one of the greatest philosophers of the 20th century discovered six magic words… “We Become What We Think About.” Our thoughts control our lives. Think positive, get positive results… think negative…well you know what happens. How do you improve your thinking?… by setting goals and achieving them. Start by taking out a memo pad and writing down exactly what you want out of life. You may have big problems…so what! …everyone does. Identify (10) things you want to get done. Then set clear goals and accomplish them one by one. Then do (10) more until goal setting and achievement becomes a natural part of your life. When you have a setback, just remember Earl’s six magic words…”We Become What We Think About.” It works just as simple and wonderful as it sounds.

ARE YOU MENTALLY TOUGH?

June 24th, 2011

Wow! Did you get a chance to watch the 2011 U.S. Open Golf Championship last weekend?  Rory Mcilroy, a twenty-two year old from Northern Ireland won the tournament by 8 strokes and set a tournament record of 268. This competitive young man showed poise and determination as he marched to victory.  This extraordinary win has propelled him to be nicknamed  the “Celtic Tiger”, the “Next Tiger” and many other titles.

The results were not  so great back in April at the 2011 Master’s Tournament , just a little over 2 months ago. Rory had a four shot lead going into the final day of the tournament  but the pressure got to him and he finished the tournament tied for 15th.  The world watched and hoped this young Irishman would be given another chance down the road.

Well, here we are just two months down the road and this young lad has won a Major tournament (US Open) by a record setting margin. What happened? How did he recover so quickly from a devastating loss to be a Major Champion?

In Rory’s case, he had to work on his Mental Toughness. He learned to get control of his emotions and just play the game. Tough to do in such a short while but, if you really believe in yourself, it can be done.

You can take Rory’s example and use it as a motivator in your career to build Mental Toughness. Stay in the moment, do all you can right now to deliver the best of you today.  Pretty soon you will be giving rock – solid performances like Rory did last week.
